Making happy memories for refugee children

Event By: Team Up 4 Community

Event Type: Children & Youth

Sport: Team

Date: January 23, 2017

Location:
9 Union Avenue Lynbrook
New York 11563, United States

About:

Working through the Memory Project, 10 Lynbrook High School National Art Honor Society members which include student athletes, created portraits for Syrian children living in a refugee camp on the Syrian border. These children and their families have been living in tents at this camp for years, since it became too dangerous to live in their hometowns.

“They have so little” said adviser Michael Kunz. “So much of their childhood has been lost. Our NAHS members created portraits that would be fun, meaningful, and personal gifts to help show these children how much we care about their well being.” The Memory Project is a charitable nonprofit organization that invites art teachers and their students to create portraits for youth around the world who have faced substantial challenges, such as neglect, abuse, loss of parents, violence and extreme poverty.
